Inquiries

Much of genealogical research is knowing how and where to look.  If you would like me to have a look and see what I can find, and agree to let me publish what I find here, feel free to post a query – my areas of expertise are England, Scotland, Canada, and the U.S.  I’ll do my best to find and post what I can for you.  You can then follow up and get the documents for your tree on your own…

Would you like me to get a copy of the death record for Samuel Wellwood who died in Penticton BC in 1930? I can easily do that the next time I am at the central branch of Vancouver Public Library. He’s not one of ‘my’ family so I’d be interested in the details myself.

    • Hi, Eleanore! I would appreciate very much if you could get a copy! Is there a way you can scan it and post it under Samuel Moses’ post for us? I try not to use transcripts due to the possibility of transcription errors. Thank you! 😉

Addendum – check http://www.familysearch.org. It gives the bare bones of the record but not the image, including that his father was Samuel Wellwood, mother was Elizabeth Grant and wife was Margaret and he was born in Scotland on 15 February 1874.

    • I do know about FamilySearch, but do not use it as a source, preferring to get copies of original documents. I have a copy of Samuel’s original birth record, his parents’ marriage record, and his marriage to Margaret Turnbull. But thanks for the thought! 😉 What I’m missing is any record of his or Margaret’s death, or the Illinois Samuel’s marriage to Jeanette, which would hopefully give their parents’ names. That way I could know beyond doubt which Samuel the Illinois Samuel was…

    Hi Cookie,
Yesterday was my late Father’s birthday, Roger B. Kerr, born Feb 27, 1909.
I googled his name and found your research. What a surprise! He would have been delighted, and on his 102nd birthday, no less. Very interesting information. I did do some research on Ancestry.com last year. It was mostly on my Mother’s side. I hadn’t looked that far back to my Father’s side. I forwarded your info on to some family members and they are excited as well.
    Thank you for posting this,
    Debbie Kerr Crocker

    • I’m so pleased! I hope you subscribe – I publish more every week or so, and as a subscriber you’ll get notifications for new posts. We can also keep in touch off the blog if you’d like! Mary Dougan’s sister Annie was my gr-grandmother.

Very interesting website, I’m a descendent of Samuel Wellwood, in fact I’ve inhereted a painting of the veiw from his grave on the banks of lake Okanagan which my grandmother treasured, among other things such as several books published under a “Wellwood” publishing house, although I’m confused over which Samuel this is … email me.
